Special Events

The Topeka TCF Chapter holds three special memorial events each year. We understand the need of bereaved families to have the opportunity to participate in events that celebrate and honor the lives of their deceased children, grandchildren and siblings. All bereaved family members are encouraged to participate in these memorial events.

Memorial Candle Lighting Program
In December of each year, the Topeka Chapter holds a Candle Lighting Memorial Program including special music, poetry readings and an opportunity for each family member to light a candle in memory of their loved one. This year the Candle Lighting will take place on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Votive candles are provided and those attending are asked to bring a framed, desk-top photo of their child, grandchild or sibling to place on the Memory Tables (No larger than 8 x 10, please). You are also encouraged to bring your child's favorite holiday treat to share with the group following the Candle Lighting. This special program takes the place of our regular monthly support group meeting in December. PLEASE note the date change in your calendars.

Memorial Picnic and Dove Release

Our 25th Annual Memorial Picnic and Dove Release will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Shelter House #3 on Memory Point at Lake Shawnee in Topeka, KS.  We invite you to join us for this special event in loving memory of all those children, grandchildren and siblings who "left too soon".
We are very excited this year to have special guest singer/songwriter Alan Pederson join us to present special music during our Memorial Program. Alan is stopping by our event with his Angels Across the USA Tour van that is covered with butterfly decals in memory of deceased kids across the country.  Alan is a bereaved father of his angel Ashley, and is former Executive Director of the National Compassionate Friends.  We know you will enjoy listening to his beautiful music as we remember all those children we love and miss so much.
We will gather beginning at 11:30, with the potluck luncheon beginning at noon.  The Memorial Program will begin around 1:30pm with the Dove Release scheduled for approximately 2:15 p.m.  Below is an RSVP Form that you will need to fill out and submit so we know how many folks to plan on attending.  The form also allows you the opportunity to sponsor a dove in memory of your loved one.
We hope to see you on Saturday, September 29th!
