Special Events

The Topeka TCF Chapter holds three special memorial events each year. We understand the need of bereaved families to have the opportunity to participate in events that celebrate and honor the lives of their deceased children, grandchildren and siblings. All bereaved family members are encouraged to participate in these memorial events.

Memorial Candle Lighting Program
In December of each year, the Topeka Chapter holds a Candle Lighting Memorial Program including special music, poetry readings and an opportunity for each family member to light a candle in memory of their loved one. This year the Candle Lighting will take place on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Votive candles are provided and those attending are asked to bring a framed, desk-top photo of their child, grandchild or sibling to place on the Memory Tables (No larger than 8 x 10, please). You are also encouraged to bring your child's favorite holiday treat to share with the group following the Candle Lighting. This special program takes the place of our regular monthly support group meeting in December. PLEASE note the date change in your calendars.

Walk To Remember

Notice on Walk to Remember

We regret to announce that the Topeka TCF Chapter will not be holding a Walk to Remember in April this year.  With the combination of the City of Topeka and Shawnee Country Parks and Rec Departments, the cost of having a walk event in Gage Park went from $65.00 to $235.00 and required organizations holding a walk event to not only rent a shelter house but also the band shell.  We will be seeking alternate sites and will hopefully be able to hold a Walk to Remember in 2018. We will keep you apprised through this newsletter and our Chapter website at www.tcftopeka.org

Memorial Picnic and Dove Release

Our 24th Annual Memorial Picnic and Dove Release was a wonderful event attended by about 50 Chapter members. We were blessed with beautiful sunny weather was we gathered to share our love and remembrance of our children, grandchildren and siblings who "left too soon".

The potluck picnic was followed by a Memorial Program and a Dove Release. During the Memorial Program each attendee was given the opportunity to share the name of their loved one whom they had come to honor and remember.  We thank Jennifer Meyer, Jessica's mother, for serving as MC for the program and Chapter members Chris Phillipi, Collene and Damon Tucker and Susan Chan for participating in the program.

As attendees departed the picnic, they were gifted with a paper dove imbedded with wildflower seeds to take home to plant in memory of their loved one.  The paper doves were sponsored by Gary and Susan Chan in memory of their daughter Rachael.

Plans are already underway for our 25th Annual Memorial Picnic and Dove Release.  Watch this site and our Chapter newsletter for further information in 2018.
